Gastric Sleeve Surgery Procedure in Iran

Most sleeve gastrostomies are performed through laparoscopic method. The surgeon makes five or six small incisions in the abdomen and use a video camera (laparoscope) and long instruments that are placed through these small incisions.
In sleeve gastrectomy, 2/3rd of the left side of the stomach is removed via laparoscopic method by using endoscopic staplers. The left stomach has the shape of a hockey stick or sleeve with a capacity ranging between 60 -100 cc.

Since the outlet is small, food stays in the pouch longer and one also feels satiated for a longer time. In this method, the outlet valve and the nerves of the stomach remain intact.
Upon discharge from hospital, you will be given follow-up visits between 2-4 weeks. The next follow-up visits will be monthly for the first six months.
According to the studies, the sleeve gastrectomy is as effective as gastric bypass surgery in terms of weight loss and improvement or remission of diabetes specifically type 2 diabetes.
